In December 2023, the renowned Ukrainian artist Liliia Kaluzhyna participated in the “Ukrainian Art in EU” exhibition held at the European Parliament in Brussels, showcasing her evocative paintings “Blackout Kiev” and “Triste Natale”.
These two oil on canvas artworks (100×50 cm) vividly capture the harsh reality of Christmas during the war in Ukraine, reflecting the emotional toll of the ongoing conflict. Hosted by MEP Pina Picierno, the exhibition aimed to highlight the war crimes in Ukraine and the violation of human rights, particularly focusing on the impact of the war on children.
Through Kaluzhyna’s expressive art, visitors were invited to reflect on the darkness cast over childhood and adolescence due to the war. This exhibition further promoted the need for European countries to support rehabilitation programs for Ukrainian children.
