In November 2023, acclaimed Ukrainian artist Liliia Kaluzhyna showcased her poignant painting “Emigrant” at the exhibition “World of Women: Art Against Violence”, part of Vitaworld 2023, held at the Melengiano Castle in Italy.
The exhibition, running from November 21 to 29, focused on raising awareness about violence against women and featured contributions from artists around the world. Kaluzhyna’s artwork, oil on canvas, 70 x 50 cm (27.6 x 19.7 in.), created in 2023, highlights the themes of displacement and resilience, resonating deeply with the audience.
This exhibition was organized to commemorate the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women and featured notable guests such as Sasha Romantsova, executive director of the Center for Civil Liberties in Kyiv and a Nobel Peace Prize 2022 laureate. The event, organized by VITAWORLD in collaboration with Casa Delle Artiste and the Department of Equal Opportunities of Melengiano, emphasized the importance of cultural diplomacy in advocating for women’s rights, with art historian Giorgio Gregorio Grasso providing insightful commentary on Kaluzhyna’s work.
